Everllence and Danieli Corus Partner to Accelerate CO2 Emissions Reduction in the Steel Industry
Everllence SE (formerly MAN Energy Solutions SE) and Danieli Corus B.V. have entered into an exclusive collaboration agreement to jointly develop and supply coke oven gas compression and blast furnace injection systems, helping steel producers reduce CO2 emissions through the implementation of proven technology.
Addressing Steel Industry CO2 Emissions
Steel production accounts for approximately 7% of global CO2 emissions, with the majority originating from the ironmaking process in blast furnaces at integrated steel plants. Coke oven gas is rich in hydrogen and can serve as an effective reducing agent in the blast furnace. By partially replacing metallurgical coke with coke oven gas, steelmakers can improve reduction efficiency while lowering the consumption of carbon–intensive fuels. This results in a measurable reduction in CO2 emissions from the ironmaking process.
Unlocking the Full Potential of Coke Oven Gas
Most integrated steel plants operate on–site cokemaking facilities, making coke oven gas widely available. Traditionally, this gas is used as a fuel in various plant processes, including heating applications and power generation. While these applications provide an effective use for the gas, they do not leverage its reducing potential. Injecting coke oven gas into the blast furnace enables steel producers to utilize its hydrogen content more effectively, creating a practical pathway to meaningful CO2 emissions reductions within existing production facilities.
Combining Complementary Expertise
Successful implementation of coke oven gas injection requires both reliable gas compression and a robust blast furnace injection system. Everllence brings decades of experience in compressor technology for demanding coke oven gas applications, while Danieli Corus contributes extensive blast furnace expertise and a proven track record in tuyere injection technologies.
Through this collaboration, the companies will engineer and supply complete coke oven gas injection solutions, supporting customers throughout the entire project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and process design to commissioning, training, and operational support.

Practical Decarbonization for Steelmakers
Deepak Verma, Decarbonization Manager at Danieli Corus, says: “Reducing CO2 emissions from steel production is an industry imperative. Coke oven gas injection is a practical first step for producers that cannot yet transition entirely to direct reduced iron production, let alone hydrogen-based production. We have a responsibility to pursue solutions based on proven technologies that can be implemented in existing plants. By working closely together and drawing on each other’s expertise, Danieli Corus and Everllence can help steelmakers put such a solution into practice.”
Frank Weih, Sales & Tendering Manager Screw Compressors at Everllence, says: “We have supplied compressors for coke oven gas applications since 1954 and understand the demands this gas places on compressor systems. Our role is to provide reliable compression and work with Danieli Corus to integrate it with the blast furnace injection process. By combining our technologies and engineering expertise, we can offer steelmakers a coordinated solution tailored to their plants, from the initial assessment through to operation.”
Supporting the Transition to Lower–Carbon Steelmaking
Together, Everllence and Danieli Corus will work closely with steel producers worldwide to evaluate the applicability of coke oven gas injection and support the successful integration of the technology into existing blast furnace operations, enabling meaningful progress toward lower–carbon steel production.
