Sixth Greenfield Blast Furnace Commissioned for Hoa Phat Dung Quat

A joint team of Hoa Phat and Danieli Corus experts have successfully started up the greenfield 2500 m³ Blast Furnace No. 6 at Hoa Phat’s Dung Quat integrated steel plant. The first hot metal was tapped already on the day of the blow–in ceremony and after a quick ramp–up, the furnace produces a stable 7500 tHM/day.

The completion of this latest project marks another milestone for the exceptionally fruitful relationship between Hoa Phat and Danieli Corus: within eight years of the award of the first contract, as many as six greenfield Blast Furnaces were built and commissioned.
In Summer of 2017, a contract was signed for four 1080 m³ greenfield Blast Furnaces for the first development phase of Hoa Phat’s steelmaking operations in Dung Quat. The first of these furnaces was completed within 24 months after contract signing, with the fourth and final furnace being commissioned in 2021.
Also in 2021, a follow–up contract was signed for another two greenfield Blast Furnaces with a 2500 m³ working volume each. These furnaces form the heart of the second development phase of the Dung Quat integrated works.
Blast Furnace No. 5 was commissioned in 2024, growing Hoa Phat’s steelmaking capacity in Dung Quat from the existing 5 Mtpa to around 7.5 Mtpa. Now, with the commissioning of Blast Furnace No. 6, total capacity will reach around 10 Mtpa.
We are proud of this joint achievement and look forward to our future contributions to sustainable growth in Vietnam.
