Order for SAIL IISCO Greenfield Mega Blast Furnace No. 6

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has awarded the contract for the new, greenfield Mega Blast Furnace No. 6 at their IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur to Danieli Corus. The new Blast Furnace will have a 4680 m³ working volume and a 5557 m³ inner volume and is designed to add 4.08 Mtpa of steelmaking capacity to the current output of IISCO Steel Plant.

The new furnace will be equipped with the latest in modern Blast Furnace ironmaking technology. The hot blast system will be based on dome combustion hot blast stoves, which will be the sixth reference for this design for Danieli Corus. The gas cleaning system have a dry second stage based on the Danieli Corus Pleno V technology, which has its roots in the primary aluminium industry, where it is proven to be a robust performer for close to 50 years.

IISCO Blast Furnace No. 6 will be the largest on the Indian subcontinent and, as such, represents another solid step forward for the growth of the steel industry in India. Danieli Corus is proud to contribute to this growth based on modern, western technology.
