First Greenfield Blast Furnace at Hòa Phát Dung Quat Phase II Plant Starts Operation

Today, a team of blast furnace ironmaking experts from Hòa Phát Steel and Danieli Corus completed the blow–in the first of two greenfield blast furnaces built by Danieli Corus as part of the Phase II project for Hòa Phát’s Dung Quat integrated steel plant.

This is the first of two 2500 m³ blast furnaces built under a contract signed in December 2021 after Hòa Phát and Danieli Corus completed and commissioned four greenfield 1080 m³ furnaces for the first phase of the Dung Quat project. The new furnaces add 2.5–2.8 Million tonnes of ironmaking capacity each to the total 5 Mtpa capacity of the existing plants.
Similar to the existing furnaces, these new workhorses are also equipped with the Danieli Corus high conductivity cooling and lining design based on copper plate coolers and graphite refractories – the only blast furnace lining design, of which the capability to achieve long campaigns under all process conditions is beyond debate.
Danieli Corus and Hòa Phát Steel have a long track record of successful cooperation. Since the first major project—the reline of Blast Furnace No. 2 at Hòa Phát’s Hai Duong plant in Kinh Mon—was executed in 2016, the companies have continued their especially through the construction of six greenfield blast furnaces, the last of which is scheduled to come online in August 2025.
On top of that, the companies share a history of highly effective process optimization projects for the ironmaking sections of both the Dung Quat and Kinh Mon plants, emphasizing the value of Danieli Corus Operational Assistance programs in combination with client’s pro–active approach towards production processes as well as capital projects.
We are confident that with the completion of this new blast furnace, Hòa Phát Steel and Danieli Corus have taken another step forward in continuing their successful partnership.
