Estimator Fulltime
As an Estimator you will be responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for large–scale industrial projects involving blast furnaces, steelmaking facilities, and related infrastructure. The role combines technical engineering insight with commercial acumen, ensuring that proposals reflect realistic costs, risks, and execution strategies for global clients.
Responsibilities
Technical & Project Estimation
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, maintenance, and modernization projects in blast furnaces, steel plants, coke ovens, and auxiliary systems;
- Analyze engineering drawings, specifications, P&IDs, and 3D models to determine material, labor, and equipment requirements;
- Develop quantity take–offs for civil, mechanical, electrical, and refractory works;
- Evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations, ensuring technical compliance and cost–competitiveness;
- Build cost models for new technologies, process upgrades, and energy‑efficiency solutions.
Commercial & Strategic Activities
- Support bid/no–bid decisions with cost–risk analyses and scenario modeling;
- Collaborate with sales, engineering, procurement and project management teams to develop complete tender packages;
- Prepare cost breakdown structures and pricing strategies aligned with international market conditions;
- Participate in client negotiations and clarify technical/commercial assumptions.
Risk, Compliance & Documentation
- Identify cost drivers, uncertainties, and potential risks; propose mitigation strategies;
- Maintain and update cost databases, historical benchmarks, and productivity norms;
- Ensure estimates comply with international standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Prepare clear documentation of assumptions, exclusions, and basis of estimate.
What makes you successful?
Your knowledge and experience include the following:
- Technical bachelor’s degree, supplemented with courses in budgeting and calculation;
- At least 5 years of experience in budgeting multidisciplinary engineering and contracting projects, preferably in heavy industry estimation, ideally in steelmaking, blast furnaces, or large industrial projects;
- Strong understanding of steel plant processes (ironmaking, steelmaking, casting, rolling, utilities);
- Strong command of Microsoft Excel for cost modeling and scenario analysis;
- Ability to interpret complex engineering documentation and 3D models;
- Occasional travel to project sites, supplier facilities, and client offices.
Soft Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail;
- Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English;
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tenders simultaneously;
- Proactive mindset with strong problem–solving abilities.
