Control Engineer (Level 1)

Job description

As a Control Engineer (Level 1), you will be involved in the software development of new and existing blast furnaces around the world, according to ISA88. You will be involved in the control and maintenance of existing (customer) installations, as well as standardized products within the organization. After software creating, you will travel to the customer for implementation. This can be done on an individual basis or as part of a team, depending on the size of the project. Programming, implementing, and testing blast furnace components remotely and/or on location is part of your daily routine.

The main activities are:

  • Software development based on ISA88, keeping the needs of internal and external customers in mind, using standards and securing the quality
  • Diagnose programs in response to a malfunction and solve them by (re)programming the software
  • Evaluate and advise on programs created by colleagues in the means of an IAT (Internal Acceptance Test)
  • Create Schematic- and connection diagrams for the build of control panels
  • Report changes/ improvements to the standard and write a Functional Design Specification (how an installation works in terms of control)
  • Software implementation at customers location
  • Create site reports (keep a logbook) when visiting a client

Requirements

  • Technical education on BSc level (Industrial Automation or equivalent), with additional training in Scada systems, networks, and data communication as a plus
  • At least 2 years of knowledge and experience in Industrial Automation with Siemens (Simatic) products and software: TIA Portal and S7 (PLC control). PLC programming languages STL, FBD, and WinCC Advanced (HMI screens)
  • Knowledge of Profibus and Profinet
  • At least 2 years of knowledge and experience in Industrial Automation with Rockwell (Allen Bradley) products and software: PlantPAx 5.0 (PLC control)
  • Develop a plan (Project Execution Plan (PEP)) for the scope of work to be done and the required hardware and software
  • Good communication skills (orally and in writing) in Dutch and English
  • Prepared to travel and work abroad for multiple weeks
  • You are stress resistant, enthusiastic, take ownership, can work independently as well as with other colleagues, and are customer-oriented (both internally and externally)

EIC Engineering & Automation Department

For the execution of our greenfield and modernization projects, the Engineering Department is divided into Project Engineering and Discipline Engineering Departments such as Mechanical, Process, Refractory and EIC&A Engineering. The Department employs approximately 20 experts and is responsible for the design of plant components related to EI&C and Automation, contributes to technology improvement and supports the Global Sales Department.
